The 2024 ESC/WOSC was played in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Barcelona.
Professional players Mr. Masakazu Kondoh (7-dan), teaching professionals Mr. Yasushi Ishikawa (4-dan) and Mr. Tetsuaki Sanada (3-dan) were special guests at the event.
Jean Fortin (FR) won the final of the European championship against FESA president Frank Roevekamp (DE). 3rd place went to Stefanos Mandalas (GR) who won the match for place 3 against Sergei Lysenka (BY). With his win Jean Fortin clinched his 6th European Champion title and he is now the sole record title holder.
107 players particpated in the WOSC tournament. The first 3 places went to players from Japan. Taichi Kobayashi won all his games (9 wins). On 2nd place came Kasey Nishimoto (JP) with 8 wins and 3rd Kazushi Shibutani (JP) with 7 wins. Also 7 wins had Jean Fortin (FR) who was the best Eurpean player on place 4.
In the blitz tournament the teaching professional players showed their skills. 3 players finished with 6 wins: Yasushi Ishikawa (JP), Tetsuaki Sanada (JP) and Kasey Nishimoto (JP), however the teaching professionals played with a 2 piece handicap. 45 players participated in the blitz tournament.
The team tournament was won by team ‘Kongoukai’ (Stefanos Mandalas, Thomas Pfaffel, Andreas Neumaier). 2nd place ‘Shogi Club Frankfurt’ (Thomas Leiter, Bilal Dardour, Richard Haas) and 3rd place ‘OuKei Team’ (Anton Borysov, Felix McPeake, Dmytro Rodin). 21 teams particpated in the team tournament.
