On Sunday morning, 10 teams came out to the start of the “XIX Team Family Shogi Tournament” in the festively decorated “Ginkammuri”. Traditionally, children played against children, and adults against adults. And just look at the diversity of family members who supported their young shogi players in their hobby: four mothers, three fathers, one grandmother, one grandfather and one aunt.
Real battles took place at the boards, there were many sharp combinations and beautiful checkmate attacks. Of course, adult beginners also had fouls, but not only banal double pawns, but even an unexpected checkmate with a pawn being put forward.
Based on the results of four rounds, the team of Sasha and Maria Kurakova covered the distance more harmoniously than the others – 7 victories in 8 games. Only one victory behind the winners Alex and Lena Teploukhova fell behind, and the fate of the bronze medals was decided by soulless coefficients.
Congratulations to the top three winners of the “19th Team Family Tournament”:
1. Kurakov Alexander 4 kyu (3 wins) and Maria 8 kyu (4 wins) – 7 points;
2. Teploukhov Alex 13 kyu (2 wins) and Elena 3 kyu (4 wins) – 6 points;
3. Pashinsky Bogdan 7 kyu (3 wins) and Andrey 5 kyu (2 wins) – 5 points.
The tournament gave all participants unforgettable emotions and, of course, brought generations closer together, because now families will increasingly gather at home for a useful and favorite activity – a game of shogi.
