The 2022 European Shogi Championship/World Open Shogi Championship (ESC/WOSC) was held in Ludwigshafen, Germany between July 28th and 31st.
Professional players Mr. Shohei Takada (7-dan), Ms. Madoka Kitao (ladies professional 2-dan) and Ms. Karolina Styczynska (ladies professional 1-dan) attended the event and were playing many teaching games.
New European champion became Uladzislau Zakrzheuski (BY), who won the final against Jean Fortin (FR). In the match for 3rd place Anton Starykevich (BY) won against Thomas Leiter (DE).
Kasey Nishimoto (JP) took the title in the WOSC with a perfect score of 9/9 followed by the new European champion Uladzislau Zakrzheuski (BY) and Jean Fortin (FR). 87 players competed in the WOSC tournament.
Kasey Nishimoto (JP) won also the blitz tournament. On second place finished Karolina Styczynska, who gave a rook handicap in her games and third became Tomita Keiji (US). 57players participated in the blitz tournament. //
The team tournament was won by ‘Triple K’ (Kazushi Shibutani, Kensuke Tsutsui, Keigo Suzuki), three Japanese players living in Germany. Second place was team ‘Minsk Shogi Dojo’ (Anton Starykevich, Peter Shcheslionok, Sergey Lysenka) and on third place ‘Ginkammuri’ (Eugeny Iglitsky, Yaroslav Kondratov, Alexey Mahnach). 18 teams played in the team tournament.
