A 29th Colmar Shogi Open full of surprises

Share it with friends

The 29th Colmar Shogi Open took place on September 27th and 28th, with a good attendance approaching pre-Covid records. But what will be most remembered from this tournament is the fierce matches that took place, resulting in some surprises at the top of the table. It was a great pleasure to see players from Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany (and indirectly from Colombia and Japan), and even Switzerland! The tournament’s big favorite was, of course, Shibutani 4 Dan, who kindly joined the tournament despite some train delays. We don’t know if these were what destabilized him, but the fact remains that he had his work cut out for him against the national hopeful Célestin Weimann and the top-seeded Spaniard Jona Ruiz. Congratulations to both of them! Detailled results and more pictures available on Association Shogi d’Alsace website : link to Shogi Alsace 29th Colmar tournament
